Useful hiking tips.

October 11th, 2008 by alexander

With abundant of rainforest (not very long) in Malaysia, many of us do enjoy hiking into the jungle. I share the same passion with these people and this post is especially written for you guys.

Kuala Kubu Baru, in short, KKB.

Anyone who hike before in Malaysia jungle will know how rough is the rainforest terrain; sharp stone, slippery rocks, muddy trails, spiky fern, uneven terrain… And it even tougher when you caught in the rain during hiking.. ( memory recall: Bako National Park, Sarawak x_x )

This ain’t roses..

How cool is that?

And to make it more fun, there is even river crossing. For Sg Chiling in KKB, there are 5 water crossings. Who doesn’t like hiking ?

(those who are afraid of leeches, of course!)

And at the end of the journey, a magnificent waterfall is waiting for you, in this case, many of you.

So anyway, back to point.

How is your shoe gonna survive the entire hiking journey? It is so common that the shoe heel and outsole will fall apart during hiking. Well it is because they are not meant for agressive wear and tear, such as hiking. Unless you buy timberland or camel active shoes (which cost you even more), here is a cost effective solution to share with you.

Always bring a small string (about 2 metre long) and a knife/scissor with you.

And here is why & how..

Yup. that’s the hair rubber band that plays its role quite well.

You don’t need to graduate from boy scout to learn to tie like that.

Tada.. The small string that makes you come out alive from the jungle with the shoe heel intact, and definitely saves you from embarrassment limping away.
