Pearl Harbor
September 22nd, 2007 by alexanderDecember 7, 1941 marked the beginning date of the World War II. The Japanese launched a surprise attack on the Pearl Harbor, Hawai’i. This attack was meant to cripple US Pacific fleet which was a huge treat to Japan.

US Pacific fleet was based at O’ahu island, where the location is strategic and the sea depth is sufficient to host the giant battleship. Most importantly, the location was chosen by US President Franklin Roosevelt to reduce Japanese agression in China and South East Asia.

For the Japanese, the move was motivated by the needs to replenish its resources especially oil. With pressure from US, it has left no other option for Japan besides attacking US Pacific fleet to guranttee its invasion into China and Asia Pacific a success.

On the morning of December 7, 1941, a total of 353 Japanese plane reached Hawai’i and begin series of bombing and attack the US battleships which none of them is ready for counter attack.

USS Arizona suffered the most damage and eventually sunk, trapping its army personel inside the ship.

The USS Arizona Memorial provides a history flashback of the eventful day. This memorial is a live museum where visitors will see the shipwreck of USS Arizona and also stand onboard at the USS Missouri, where Japanese signed the surrender declaration.
This museum provides the audio tour where visitors listen to description as well as the sound effect during the war time.

The remains which can be seen from the surface.

After more than 60 years since the date of the attack, there is still oil floating on the sea.

A total of 1,177 soldiers died on the Arizona which most of them trapped inside the ship. Many of them shared the same last name, there were brothers and sisters working on the same ship.


USS Bowfin was a submarine and commission during the WorldWar II. It is now has become a musuem located next to the USS Arizona Memorial.

On August 21, 1944, Bowfin sunk the Tsushima Maru, an unmarked passenger/ cargo vessel that was carrying schoolchildren. 1,484 civilians including 767 schoolchildren were killed.

This is also the battleship that hosted the Japanese surrender declaration.

Pearl Harbor is still remain as the headquarter for the US Pacific fleet. There are numbers of warships docking at the US port.
